On December 29, 2019, a lone gunman opened fire in the sanctuary of the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas. Within a matter of seconds, the gunmen mortally wounded two members of congregation before being shot and killed by a member of the church’s armed security team.
Providing an unprecedented glimpse into the violence and speed of an active shooter event, the church unwittingly live streamed the entire incident.
Join Group’s Church Safety and Security Director, church security team co-leader, and reserve deputy sheriff, Craig Cable, as he walks through the events of that morning and discusses what lessons can be learned and applied to your church’s active shooter preparation and training.
In this webinar, we discuss:
- Trends in church violence
- A step-by-step walk-through of the live streamed video that captured the shooting
- What can be learned from the incident
- Questions and answers from webinar participants
(This webinar originally aired on January 7, 2020)
FOLLOW UP: Unsurprisingly, we received a lot of questions related to how to respond to an active shooter threat during and after the webinar.
In response, I’ve collected the top 10 most frequently asked questions, and provided answers based on best practices in church security.
Thank you for your dedication to keeping your church members safe and secure.
